About The Latino Trendsetter Awards

According to its website, the Latino Trendsetter Awards are presented by LatinTRENDS Magazine (formerly DTM Magazine) to people that have achieved by doing – to those who have taken on the job, project, cause or challenge and making things happen for themselves, their families and their communities. It’s the people that choose to be part of the solution, not the problem. They are the ones who dare to be a little unconventional if need be – they help define trends that influence both the mainstream and the Latino/Hispanic culture – they are men & women that maintain high levels of standards through their actions and deeds.   In keeping with our support of tomorrow’s trendsetters, the Latino Trendsetter Awards also awards scholarships to college students in the CUNY system – this year, as in every other, a portion of the proceeds will be given to the scholarship fund for deserving CUNY students.

About Carmelina Vargas

After an unanticipated hiatus to beat a (Stage 2) Breast Cancer diagnosis following the release of her debut album “Morena,” Carmelina returns to music and to her fans as a true survivor.  Originally from Barahona, Dominican Republic and the daughter of a merengue musician, Carmelina now resides in Harlem, NY.  She has recently been featured on Russell Simmons’ GlobalGrind.com, AllThingsGirl.net, and in LatinTRENDS Magazine and METRO International and is preparing to release new music in 2011.
